Need help configuring Roon
#1
In time I will release a new Snakeoil beta firmware that allows you to run RoonBridge with RoonServer. Apparently this is the best AQ combo right now. But I don't use Roon, don't have a Roon license, or a Roon account for support.

So need some help with Roon configuration. Hope some of you can help me on this: How to do bit perfect audio?

Here are some screen captures from a fellow Snakeoil user:

He reckons Roon is now configured to play in bit perfect mode, but seems there is still DSP/EQ being applied:
  1. Bass and treble are both "bumped up". The treble is so energised with certain tracks it's kind of unberable to be honest.
  2. Some music that is supposed to be more on the left hand side of the sound stage is now moved towards the phantom centre
  3. Decay of some notes seem to be a lot shorter and damped off very abruptly. Little to no transients now. Percussions like drums can hit real hard (due to the emphasised bass), but then it dies off real quickly.
Switching players to Squeezelite+LMS AFAICT remove all the issues above. Basically with Roon the whole music experience just don't feel right.

I am sure there is an option somewhere for DSP, where is this option? Would like to disable that and try again.

For testing point #2, use a test track such as "Introduction and Left-Right Imaging Test" from this Chesky album. See if "midway between centre and left" or "midway between centre and right" is now moved into centre.

I know what you mean about the enhanced bass but I'm pretty sure there are no adjustments possible. It is bitperfect or at least is claimed to be.

Did you try Roon server with Squeezelite as player only? Then you can see whether the problem is Roon Bridge or Roon server.

Personally I prefer Roon Server and Squeezelite although Roon community members seem to prefer Roon Bridge.

Can't find any adjustments myself too, hence find it a bit weird.Hopefully I can do some quick and dirty tests once I get my test machine up and running...
