[SOLVED] Newbie to Snakeoil having issues getting started
#1
Hi all,  I am a newbie and not the most competent IT person.  I have an old Antipodes DS Reference that died from software issues and I replaced the hard disk with a SSD which I managed to get Daphile up and running.

I tried to follow the setup instructions to create an ISO USB disk which may not have worked correctly using Rufus.  one of the steps relating to the grub options did not appear.

I will add some of the screen shots of my configuration.

The final screen is the blinking cursor which does nothing sadly.

Click YES to download the matching grub. I think you only need to do this once, and it will not prompt you again.

It could be your system is set to boot up in EFI mode. Can you check if your router has given your computer a IP? If not, go to the BIOS setup, and disable EFI, use something like:
Code:
Boot Option #2-> Your USB Device, in BIOS mode
That should give you a graphical screen back, and from there you can tell if there's a problem with the boot process or not.

The Antipodes should be using a Jetway NF9C board, and that is the same motherboard I'm using to run my Snakeoil PC.. Have a check in this wiki and see if your BIOS setup is done like so: Link.

It never gave me the option for that box.  Should I try a different ISO boot creator?

I will try and get to it tonight.

You can also try Etcher. That should work well also.

I have tried a couple of USB boot programs and am now getting the following message.

The computer does have an IP address and Daphile is still on the SSD.

Hi Snoopy8, TBH I'm not sure, I bought it from JB HiFi the other day.  I'll check at lunch time.

Does it need to be USB 2?

In theory no, but who knows what can happen in the real world? I've only used 4GB and 8GB USB sticks to install.. Can you check what motherboard you're using? Is it the NF9C?

I have sent Antipodes a request for the model of the motherboard.
