Snakeoil 1.4.0 (High End)
#41
So Ubuntu 24.04 server loaded onto a MicroSD card and inserted into unpowered Raspberry Pi, switched on to boot up. It took me a while to connect via PuTTY, the IP address of the Pi had incremented by 1. I ran the code to uninstall Logitech Media Server, it said it couldn't find it. Then I ran the download and install commands for the Raspberry Pi, which seemed to go OK although there were a number of error messages at the end of the install. Did the reboot. Now I cannot access the Snakeoil dashboard from my PC or the Raspberry Pi from the Squeezer app on my phone, both with the new IP address.

Error message details when trying to access the IP address in Windows:

The device or resource IP Address is not set up to accept connections on port "The File and Printer Sharing (SMB)".

Have figured out a way to do this. By making use of ventoy I can create a USB stick that will install Ubuntu and then install Snakeoil.. I can create this as an image to be downloaded, and folks can just dump that contents to a USB stick and install Snakeoil like the old days. Hopefully I can get this new thing out and this in theory will make it easier. <- May also create Windows (and Mac) programs to automate this too. i.e. a GUI to create a Snakeoil USB stick (Kind of like what Raspberry Pi is doing).

As for the wiki, that along with the blog will need to be updated before we update the contents... Unfortunately no ETA on that yet.. I hope to migrate the blog system by now but migrating the API server is taking far longer than anticipated Sad

VNCServer is only activated if you're using a GUI player (HQPlayer, etc).. Otherwise it will not be invoked... If you want to uninstall VNCServer, you can SSH into the system and run "sudo apt remove *vncserver".

also --It seems a couple places that it suggest we should do a fresh install of 24.04 ...    can you confirm this?

No need to uninstall Lyrion if you already have it installed.

Hmm. Can you do a screen cap of the error? I'm not sure what this is just yet.

Since I could communicate with the Raspberry Pi via SSH on PuTTY I concluded Ubuntu 24.04 loaded correctly and the problem was with the Snakeoil install. On reloading Snakeoil, without the error messages I got the previous time, I can now connect to the Pi's IP address via Windows and Snakeoil 1.4.0 is up and running.

On page one of this thread:
  • Lyrion Music Server is not automatically installed by default. You can install Lyrion in the snakeoil/software menus.
I can't see where to do this, any clues?

Ah! Activation does the trick.

Just report for the 1.4.0 : the mpd software / mympd web app cannot play some .mp3 audio files (or any mp3), flac is fine. The error message say "mpd error for command mpd_run_play_id: connection closed by the server"

My 1.4.0 "upgrade procedure" versions (both vers also cannot play .mp3):

ver1:
22.0.4LTS > 1.3.1SH > 24.04 (by SSH) > 1.4.0deb
MPD v23

ver2:
22.0.4LTS > 24.04LTS > 1.4.0deb

Thanks

So This is great.  Ive now updated both my SOS to 1.4.0

Server 1 - I started from a fresh Ubuntu 24.4.1  install,   everything is working great.

Server 2 -  was already upgraded to Ubuntu 24.04.1  and running the previous SOS .   So,  i did the upgrade from the instructions everything went well.  The only bug is this:   I had previously done the LMS to Lyrion update by hand and was running an up to date LMS.   The new web interface identifies it as "Logitech Media Server"   and also gives me the option to install Lyrion.   THis is really not important,  just letting the team know in case it's something that needs to be fixed.  .. see pict ( FYI I did run the command to remove Logitech media server before I did anything,  and it came back as not seeing Logitech  ... I assume because it had already turned itself into lyrion.. I suppose what I should have done is remove lyrion. )

No drag and drop.  If you are running the Amd version you can join Ubuntu Pro and install, enable the real time kennel.
https://www.snakeoil-os.net/forums/Threa...70#pid7570

You can then switch RT kernels using SnakeOil/ Kernel.

P/s bug in Pi version, cannot switch

Hi there, I am watching this realtime kernel question with interest. I have installed Snakeoil High End 1.4.0 on Ubuntu 24.04.01 LTS and would like to also use the realtime kernel.

I have an ubuntu pro subscription and a token.

I have done the "sudo pro attach token###" command and also the "pro enable realttime-kernel" command.

My console looks like this:
Quote:root@songbird:~#  pro status
SERVICE          ENTITLED  STATUS       DESCRIPTION
anbox-cloud      yes       disabled     Scalable Android in the cloud
esm-apps         yes       enabled      Expanded Security Maintenance for Applications
esm-infra        yes       enabled      Expanded Security Maintenance for Infrastructure
landscape        yes       disabled     Management and administration tool for Ubuntu
livepatch        yes       disabled     Current kernel is not covered by livepatch
realtime-kernel* yes       enabled      Ubuntu kernel with PREEMPT_RT patches integrated

But that is where I am stuck. How do I proceed next?

I tried to install the kernel and it return this:
Quote:root@songbird:~# sudo apt install linux-image-rt-amd64 linux-headers-rt-amd64
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package linux-image-rt-amd64
E: Unable to locate package linux-headers-rt-amd64

I tried to apt update but it still fail.

Please point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Edit: I am using Snakeoil on a HP T630 thin client - all works as it is - just wanting to upgrade to the Real time kernel.
