I forgot about this thread and started a new one which will be deleted. This is much easier to do and has been tested on a few different boxes.
  1. Download pre-installed Ubuntu 22.04 (64bit PC AMD64) server
    http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/...d/current/
  2. Use Balena Etcher to burn image on USB stick (Rufus does not work)
  3. Connect terminal, keyboard to PC, if required. On laptops, will need a USB network adapter; not all will work with Ubuntu and startup process will stall if not working.
  4. Boot PC, enter F10 (or equivalent) to bring up boot options.  On mine, selected 3rd option without UEFI
  5. Login ubuntu password ubuntu.  You will be prompted to change password
  6. Run 1.3.0 script to install SnakeOil (or use Putty)
    bash -c "$(wget -qLO - https://artifacts.snakeoil-os.net/artifacts/snakeoil-installer.sh)"
  7. Reboot PC and access SnakeOil via browser
  8. You can now change SnakeOil, activate etc. and it will be saved on USB.
This process is ideal for people with Windows PCs to try SnakeOil.
A question, Have you taken that USB install and booted it on another PC ? That would be the definition of portable.
I made a thread about it here some time ago and was able to boot on other PCs but ran into problems on several that started but would not work with my soundcard.

Oops...it was this thread lol :-).

Yes, tried the USB on several different computers: NUC i5 8th Gen, NUC Element i7 11th Gen, Dell XPS13 i7 11th  Gen.
Excellent.
Just downloaded the Pre-install image to try. Was not aware of that option.

I didn't know until a few days ago either!  Makes it much easier to sell SnakeOil to Windows users.  And I have used it to compare SnakeOil against Windows on the same hardware; write up coming.
oh  same old same old errors.  MyMpd does not start...remote is unavailable.

LMS any version the remote just throws me back to the Dashboard.
Can access via:9000

Won't boot on any HP AMD thin clients as the GPU driver fails and there is no way to override GRUB to set NOMODESET.

Those are S0 1.3.0 problems that require AK to fix.

That is likely a Ubuntu 22.04 problem.  No idea how to fix it?  Did a search...

Other people are having problems with 22.04 and AMD GPU

Have you tried this to overide GRUB?
