Full Version: Can't get Roon bridge or UPNP renderer to show up

For life of me I can't seem to get Snakeoil 1.4.0 (High End) working to do what I'd like it to do. I've tried it on both a RPi4B and RPi5. I have registered it and have the option to install Roon bridge and Upmpdcli  (MPD UPNP renderer). They both install no problem but the Roon bridge does not show in Roon devices and the UPNP renderer does not show up on my network. This is complete mystery to me as I have no problem using Audiolinux or RoPieee or VitOS - they show up and work beautifully. I would really love to compare Snake oil to these. My Hifiberry Digi2 Pro even shows up as an output device...
I assume that you are using Ubuntu 24.04 Server? Guessing here, this could be related to the network issues that is preventing the info from showing up in the Network tab ??
Yes. Ubuntu 24.04 Server. Isn't the Network tab disabled at the moment?

  • Network configuration is current disabled for now. This feature will be back in 1.4.1 or later.

There were issues with networking during pre-launch testing of 1.4, hence that tab was disabled. It is more than a coincidence that both the network based players are not working as well... (but I have no idea of the technical issues, let alone fix it!).

In past I followed the official instruction to install Roon Bridge on Pi4 without any issue and working just fine.  Maybe you can try Installing Roon on Linux, please don't choose a wrong version to install.  Have fun.

I did and yes, it works. Not working on Snakeoil 1.4 though as I said and no UPNP renderer either☹️
Have file a ticket so I don't forget this (Link). This will be addressed in 1.4.1. Thanks for letting me know. There's just too many players for me to monitor and there really isn't an easy way to automate this sort of testing.

Maybe it is time to cut down on the number of music players (and you have a request to add another one!) ? For a start, reduce the number of Squeezelite versions to a handful?  The older versions were causing problems which were remedied using V2 on SO 1.3

Yes, it goes against the SO philosophy of "music your way", but many of the issues during the testing of 1.4 were player related.  Alternately, automate the testing of the installation of music players?  It won't solve the issues of a specific player not working as intended, but at least, it reduces your workload.

Yeah. agree on this. Have already cut down on the players, and will likely remove more down the road. Otherwise it's just too much to keep up.
I missed the bit where it says "installs fine" Big Grin . this is very likely a configuration issue? However I don't want to invest time looking into the configuration aspects of thing as I'm not invested in this combo. Perhaps check with the Roon forums and see if they can offer anything.

Snakeoil OS is just Ubuntu and is not locked down, so there's no reason why this wouldn't work (AFAICT).
