Full Version: Question about RAM Disk

Apologies in advance for what is no doubt a silly question; I am new to Snakeoil.

I have some music on a USB which I have mounted to /media/music/mnt and I want to experiment with RAM Disk. Once I have copied the files to RAM do I need to unmount the USB to avoid having duplicates in my library?

I tried to test this earlier in the week but I was doing it from mobile and could not drill down into the ram folder to see what files were copied across in order to see if they were duplicated in the library, however the total number of files in my library did increase after copying to ram which suggests there is duplication.

(Amazing software btw, it has transformed my listening experience - thank you @agent_kith and also @Snoopy8 whose posts led me here!)
Welcome to SnakeOil...

Better if the music library does not scan the Ram folder because it can be confusing with duplicates.  I play music on the ram using folders.

Ah ok. I'm using LMS+Squeezelite with Squeezer - do you mean I should access the ram files using the Music Folder section of the app?

Sorry, I made a mistake in my earlier post.  You have no choice but to add /media/music/ram for the LMS library scan. But instead of accessing the music the usual way and trying to figure out which one is on the ram, I use folders.

On Squeezer, My Music / Music Folder, select ram.

As you have suggested, you could take out the USB source and have only entries for the ram, but you will have add it back in after finishing the ram music.  Maybe, SO could add this functionality???

p/s no longer using Squeezer.  I far prefer Material View..

Am taking this slightly OT, but I particularly like the ability to configure the front "Browse" screen to my needs.

As you can see, music folders is one of them, for ram playback and loading a visitor's music into a temp folder on my NAS.

It also looks particularly nice on a tablet...

P/s my bad earlier! Should be called Material Skin, and it is a plugin
