Ok, this issue seems to have resolved itself. After failing to get the Cyrus to show up in snakeoil I connected it to a Windows machine to see if it required any special drivers to interface with it. It didn't, the driver was present in the Windows kernel and it showed up as a generic USB audio device. I then decided to check if the Shaar was faulty by connecting to an onboard USB on the Snakeoil machine and it showed up fine. Just to be sure I connected to the Shaar again and what do you know.. it showed up on the harware tab...
No idea why it didn't work the first time but it works fine now.
We have just installed Snakeoil on a new server, and can find the library, but the Shaar Deluxe card is not showing in the ALSA devices table.
Any clues please?
Thanks,
BioBrian.
Sorry, misunderstood slightly... It's a USB controller so the device I should have been looking for is the DAC I connected to it (which apparently isn't a standard protocol that snakeoil can talk to) and doesn't show up in the device table. Feel free to delete this thread as I've already answered my own question (I think).
All the audio devices in that tab is your onboard audio sound card (PCH), and not your Cyrus 8 DAC.
Can you ssh into your system, and run the following:
Enter your login password when prompted.
Cut and paste the contents here. thanks.
Edit: also, do you have another USB audio device you can try and connect and see if Snakeoil is detecting it?
Hi Agent Kith,
We got the player working last night - sorry to keep you up!
This morning, Angus is not here, and I can't find how to play music through Snakeoil.
I've typed in the 10.0.0.6 adress and get Snakeoil, but none of the tabs gives me a clue how to find the music library.
What am I missing?
cheers,
Brian.

Brain,
From web interface with your server "name:9000". e.g: "snakeoil-os.local:9000"
Once you get in to LMS, you need to update your music library via LMS setting. A setting button is at lower right corner of the screen or LMS.
I don't think I see the Cyrus DAC in that output, and yet you get music playing?

I've been trying to nut it out all day. It plays for a while, then if I close, and try again, it won't see the Cyrus DAC. I tried rebooting a few things, which seemed to work when something happened by accident, but it still wouldn't see it.
Then I realized that the JS-2 power supply was still keeping the Shaar card powered, even when I closed the Server down. So when I powered OFF the JS-2, the Shaar was able to 'reboot' when started up again, and the music happened (Cyrus device recognized) - such a relief.
I hope this has that little worry sorted.
Now I have a new problem - how to add new material to the library. I can't see anything in the whole Snakeoil site that even mentions this, or importing a library to the SSD at all (Angus did it last night - I didn't see the process).
Could you please tell me where to look?
Cheers from Brian.

That's an excellent question.
It's not very obvious in the manual atm, it's
here (Tab: Music Library). Scroll down a bit till you see Copying Files Over Network.
I'd re-jig the manual a bit to make this more obvious.

Sorry, I must have a different version from what you are referring to. Under Music Library there's nothing about Copying Files Over Network.
What is the link to the Manual you are referring to?

I've just found The Snakeoil Reference. I was stuck on just the software on the new server - didn't realize all this was out there.
I'll give it a good read and try not to bother you until I have!
Cheers from Brian.
