IMPORTANT!!! This tutorial is outdated and will not work with Home Assistant 0.80 and above. If you want to migrate your existing setup to 0.80, please follow this quick guide.
Configure Home Assistant
With the Actions App setup and ready to go. It’s time to let Home Assistant know about this app you have just created. You are doing this from your SSH session.
- Edit your configuration.yaml file and add the following:
google_assistant:
project_id: home-assistant-XXXXX
client_id: !secret google_client_id
access_token: !secret google_access_token
agent_user_id: your_id
exposed_domains:
- switch
- light
- fan
- scene
- script
- climate - In field project_id, replace home-assistant-XXXXX with your project ID (Refer to page 4, step 8)
- In field agent_user_id, replace your_id with a unique code. You can use your email.
- Add google_client_id and google_access_token into your ’secrets.yaml’ file. These are the passwords you have generated previously in page 3 of this tutorial:
google_client_id: [your client id]
google_access_token: [your unique access token]
Check Your Configuration
Make sure your Home Assistant configuration is correct. You are doing this from your browser.
- Enter the Home Assistant URL in your browser
- Click on Configuration → General, and click the ‘Check Config’ button. Make sure everything checks out - you should see ‘Configuration valid!’.
- Once confirmed everything is in order, you can restart your Home Assistant by clicking the ‘Restart’ button on the same page.
And with this your Home Assistant is linked to Google Assistant. It is time to setup Google Assistant Home Control.

I’ve not seen that before. Is that when you’re running gactions (page 6 of this tutorial), or somewhere else?
Not that because of the nature the cloud works, you may have to wait a bit for things to work (say wait 5 minutes before trying to run gactions).
A second thing is the project ID is case sensitive.
Double check the above and re-run the commands again and let me know how it goes.
