Thinking about getting new mobo, since my old d2700dc having problems with sata and found this interesting piece of gemini lake SoC - https://www.asrock.com/MB/Intel/J5005-IT...cification Looks like it's powerful enough to run smoothly roon core (I really would like to test it out). Should expect any compatibility issues with latest snakeoil build?
Thanks in advance,

It's using a network driver that may not be open source - RTL8111H. I'd avoid using that, and it'd be unlikely that Snakeoil will add suppor for this. (No probs incorporating code into the kernel as long as it's built from source, not a closed binary like this NIC).
You can always add a supported NIC into this setup (e.g. the Intel), or attempt to taint the kernel yourself. Probably easier to just look for another board.

Damn realtek! Never tried to taint kernel before, doesn't look like a rocket since from here, but I suspect that I'll have to do it after every kernel update... Since my case has only one pci slot, which is reserved for USB regen, can I use USB wifi card? Are they even supported?

But it can be hit and miss: e.g. see here.
You should be able to find a board with Intel based chipset. In my experience Intel network chips are stable, low latency and quick, see this thread.
Failing that, it may be possible for me to build 4.15.x series of kernel, with the patches to get this NIC going. Risk with this is I can only build the kernel, but cannot do much in terms of support beyond that. So if there's any issue, it may be hard for me to diagnose remotely (because if there's no network, I can't access it).

Is there a network chipset compatibility list for snakeoil? Maybe there is somewhere an usb wifi dongle which may work...

Scrap that usb wifi, I've just found out that asrock board doesnt even support m.2 ssd, so only way would be m.2 wifi (Intel AC 7265 is the only one I can find around - hope it would work), Elfidelity AXF 100 PRO III to pcie x1, ssd to sata - I've dreamed about having wire-free board, but at the end, who cares about whats inside...
thanks for ur time agent_kith
