HP T5740 - Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM57780 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe
#1
Hello.

A few days ago I was at a friend's and I had the opportunity to listen to the snakeoil in his system.
Great sound, it is super-functional. I decided to install it at once, but I have a problem with the network card.
After installation I have only the interface lo. My network card is not recognized by snakeoil.
My request to the author of the system. Could you prepare a kernel with my card support? Please!

The system is installed on the HP T5740 terminal. Intel Atom 1600 MHz, 4GB RAM, 32GB mSATA drive.
Network card: Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM57780 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe (rev 01)
I am installing the latest version of Snakeoil 1.1.0.

HP T5740 is a very popular thin client, used by many audio lovers.
It would be good if snakeoil supported the network card that is in this thin client.

Greetings.

Just for AK's  info this HP5740  has a Tigon3 Network chip and tried to get it working a couple of years back......

Maybe things have changed since then so I'll keep an eye here for any developments....

Thanks for pointing that out.

Hmm, not entirely sure what to do here.. What I can do is create a install kernel for a newer version and hope that it'd fix it. Pw01, will get back to you in a couple of days when I have one ready for testing.

It seems to me that the problem will not be solved quickly by the author.
I will try to solve this problem differently.
I have a thin client extension with a pcie slot. He lay in the wardrobe unused.

I would like to buy a network card on the pcie that works with snakeoil.
I chose: Intel EXPI9301CTBLK PRO1000 Network Card CT PCIex

The card is on the Intel 82574L chip.
Question to the author: Does Snakoil support the Intel 82574L chip ??

Because it is a PRO1000, so yes, the ISO will work this straight away.

Having said that, I have never tried this desktop chip (CT) myself so have no experience with it

I'm using the server version (PT 82572). As a matter of fact I have one of each - 1 port, 2 port and 4 ports.

Used them at various stages and they all work well when I was experimenting with LAGG for musici playback. At the moment the the 1 port is used for my HTPC, the 2 port is used for my NAS (N54L), and the four port is not used any more (I replaced that with the newer 4 port i210 for my home lab)..

These cards are fast when it comes to transfer speed. And they are relatively cheap. The only downside is higher power consumption (but not by much).

Here's a link of the single port version: Link.  A pound more expensive. Get this if you can.

And my apologies. I totally forgot about releasing a new kernel with Tigon 3 NIC. Been real busy lately. Once I have something I'd post it up in the kernel forums. As mentioned previously, I hope to automate this kernel process. In future folks can just go to a web page, click a few buttons, and wait for an email to download the kernel.

The idea is there, and should be relatively straightforward to implement. However, there's little point in me doing this when there's not enough people using Snakeoil OS (or require a custom build).. Yeah I know it's a chicken and egg problem... shrug

I followed your advice and I obtained the card recommended by you.
I managed to buy a new one at the price of 18 pounds (calculated from PLN to pounds).
At the weekend, when I find some time, I take for the installation of snakeoil os.

That's a PC-express card..... I think you will find the expansion module is PCI slot  Sad
EDIT... there are two risers for the module....The white one is definitely PCI but I think the black one is PCI-e x4
