downloaded the 0.8.2 iso/s (shows on disc as 1.0.0 ?)
Tried installing from cd on hardware prevoiusly running snakeoil but keep getting error 'unable to install bootloader"
Then gui freezes and no other option but to hard reset.
Tried both 64 and 32 bit isos and two different machines. Older hardware... that ran 0.1 series.

Tried both 64 and 32 bit isos and two different machines. Older hardware... that ran 0.1 series. This is late into the installation right? Can you check if that machine has access to the Internet? I'm thinking it's missing some files and trying to pull 'em from the Internet, but cannot.. If possible, please take a picture and attach it here. thanks.

aha, yes installing offline as the workbench is too crowded...... no ethernet on the other side of the room.
Thanks, will have a tidy and try again....
That fixed it ! but my activation code doesn't work.....copy/paste from 0.1 series and get error
Fixed ! Reboot needed between operations. All good now !

Thanks, will have a tidy and try again.... If possible, can you tell me what packages it's trying to install? (You can expand the dialog box at the final stages to see what files are being downloaded). As long as it's not grub, it can be added to make things smoother.

Fixed ! Reboot needed between operations. All good now ! That error is a bug . It actually activates OK (fixed in subsequent firmware updates). Be sure to apply the latest.
Let me know if you have any issues. I've just installed this preview in my own system last night, and had a short 20 minute audition. After a few tweaks here and there (native WAV playback, set required processes to RT, kernel params, etc), and using Squeezelite + LMS, so far I reckon it's slightly better than 0.1.4 (more background depth, better imaging but perhaps a slight loss in clarity?), and thankfully better than 0.1.5 . I'm thinking the slight loss in clarity may be because I'm still rescanning my music library (48,000+ songs).
Hopefully that's the case for you too, but really there's no gurantee in this world , so YMMV.
So far things are sounding good. Pretty happy to be honest.
The decision to move to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, RESTful API and Angular seems to be paying early dividends so far.
Things seldom go this well according to plan. Looking back at the RFC thread, back in March (merely 3 months ago), honestly knew nothing about modern web development. Hopefully as my web dev skills improve, so will SnakeoilOS. One can only hope...

After reboot, priorities are not set
It is necessary to change the settings and press Save buttomn
For example:
irq\/18-ehci_hcd change to irq/18-ehci_hcd
Or
irq/18-ehci_hcd change to irq\/18-ehci_hcd
Sorry for my English

It is the grub-pc package unfortunately.
The standard ubuntu ubiquity installer has an initial page that checks for available hard drive space and internet connection. This doesn't appear on Snakeoil and the first page is a check about downloading updates.
Or am I not seeing it because I was not connected ?.
However, perhaps when the message about being unable to install the bootloader appears it could call a warning that an internet connection is needed..?

Or am I not seeing it because I was not connected ?. Now that you mention it, I'm not seeing that either, and my test PC is connected to the net. I'd give it a check later today, but it could well be the way 16.04 behaves now..

Can't do that from my side unfortunately, ubiquity isn't that flexible. Almost tempted to do away with the Ubiquity installer and do just a "one button install" from the webapp. But that would also mean less flexibility in other things too - e.g. setup multi OS.

Just in case the interrupt changes on boot, you can try just 'ehci_hcd' and it should also work (I'd test this also later today to confirm).

Pulled 0.8.4... This firmware added some new optimisations which in turn exposed a bug all the way back from SnakeoilOS 0.1.0. Not sure how I missed that bug from before, but it was only discovered today .
This'd be fun...

Does not work
By clicking the Save button in the web interface all three variants work successfully:
irq\/18-ehci_hcd
irq/18-ehci_hcd
ehci_hcd
After reboot, priorities are not set
