After much experimentation, the following created a bootable USB:

Format USB in Win10 (FAT, 32 kb)
UNetbootin 661 with SnakeOil 1.1 iso
Replaced vmlinuz on usb with that from zip file install-4.4.9-rt17-igb-20190223.zip

(could not get it booting with Rufus 3.5 nor changing ISO with winiso)

On booting USB, could not select get the latest updates while installing Ubuntu, and no IP address after install.

Installed and running Linux Lite. Using sudo lspci -v

Is that with EFI boot? Nice work.

The I219 uses the e1000e card. Another user in HK reported the same problem. I suspect there's a bug in the existing e1000e driver causing that to fail. I'm going out today and will be back late. Will generate a newer kernel.. In theory that should fix this boot problem.

It was legacy boot.

As a digression, Linux Lite recommended Etcher, worked first time. Etcher could not use theSnakeOil iso.

Please let me know when a new kernel is ready with an updated e1000e driver.

Etcher is good. I've been using this for a while now over Rufus. Probably time to update the Snakeoil reference..

Tried new kernel with no success.

Create usb boot using Unetbootin on a USB3.0 (does not work with USB2.0) stick
Replaced vmlinuz with that from new kernel
Booted NUC, get greyed out "download updates while installing Ubuntu"
Continued installing, rebooted
Get error messages "Failed to execute /init (error -8)" "Starting init: /bin/sh exists but couldn't execute it (error -8)" Kernel panic - not syncing: No working init found"

Tried both 1.1 and 1.0 iso images, same problem

Oh.. This is a new kernel version, might need to include a different initrd file. I'll see if I missed that in my automation scripts.

Until then, when you're in the installer (either direct or via VNC is fine), can you right click with your mouse, and start terminal. Then run "dmesg|grep e100" and let me know what pops up.

Is that all? Don't look like the kernel is seeing this NIC at all. Strange because this new kernel includes all the Intel NIC drivers.. Especially a NUC comes straight out of Intel.

What's the kernel version of Linux lite?
