[SOLVED] LMS not working with Bookworm
#1
Version: 1.3.0 (Measurements U0)   OS Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm)
Hardware: Pi2Design Mercury V2 Streamer (CM4)

LMS gave the following error: Start Player: cd /var/www;/var/www/players/lms/start /var/www/players/lms 2>&1;

Not sure why, but SO downloads LMS 8.3.2 when the website has 8.3.1.  I tried installing 8.3.1, but SO gave this message: Uploaded file is not meant for your CPU  !

I'll look into this today and hopefully roll out an update soon.. 8.3.2 is a pre-release. I remember using that for a reason but can't remember why now  Sad...

Looks like have to push to 8.4.x to make it work. For some reasons the fixes havn't been backported to 8.2.x and 8.1.x.

Manually installing the missing modules via apt does not work (probably because of different build requirements).....

I am going to boot up Ubuntu Pi and see if the problem exists over there. If yes for both I will push to 8.4.x while keeping 8.3.x for Intel/AMD systems.

In the meantime, you can manually download 8.4.x here: https://lms-community.github.io/lms-server-repository/

For now you have to manually run dpkg to install. I will see if I can workaround this in the Webapp for 1.3.1.

Just checked the changelog, looks like the same fix is applied to both 8.4.x and nightly of 8.3.x (not in 8.3.1 for obvious reasons).

So I'm going to update the LMS to use the latest 8.3.2 nightly which is tested to work.

8.4.x actually does looks very interesting though, but it might not be stable for regular use. Currently working out a way to roll this out in SO.
Moving from 32bit environment to 64 bit environment is going to be painful.. And I think/see this will take a few months (if not years) for everything to be stablised. [Image: Nooo.gif]

Added a new section "Known Issues" with a workaround for now to update to the newer 8.3.2 nightly build that included missing perl modules required for LMS to start.

That was quick!  Thank you, confirming LMS and Squeezelite Ralph now running.

Said too soon.  Using Squeezelite Ralph. Logitech Media Server Version: 8.3.2 - 1702911674

It is playing up badly e.g. the current track being played is not displaying properly.  It is not playing 24/96 flac files with message "unsupported sample-rate", skip to next track sometime produces noise, go to current track not working.  Seems to be disconnecting with Squeezer Android app.

In other words, a mess not ready for production.

Am using LMS 8.3.1 (which I downloaded) on Ubuntu 22.0.4 LTS instance.  No problems.

That's a weird one. With a similar setup (I think you have LMS and Ralph on the same machine) - LMS 8.3.X on Raspberry Pi OS on RPi 5 and Ralph on RPi 4/LTS, mine is stable (after three albums, all 24/96 or above).

FWIW, I think I prefer the sound of R2, or have done in the past.

Went back to basics. New install, and AK has changed the script to load
Logitech Media Server Version: 8.3.1 - 1676361197 . Using Squeezelite Ralph.

Can play 24/96 tracks, also long playlist with no problems. However, there is a hug lag using Squeezer Android app. It takes long time in responding to user actions, pause, skip to next track, and slow update of artwork for current tracking. LMS is working, now with a different version and different set of problems.

So you've taken a step back with LMS because 8.3.2 gives you problems? Do you know how I can check the version of LMS I have installed?

I have Squeezer on my Kindle Fire, I think. I'll try to remember to give it a go later (I always use a shortcut to the web interface on my mobile devices). I've tried iPeng on my iPhone, and that seems responsive, but I am using the RPi 5 at the moment. I guess I need to check my LMS version - if I switch back to the RPi 4, I know I'm on LMS 8.4.0 beta, which will only add to the variables.

Wasn't given a choice by the install script ! If you go into settings, information tab, you will find the version.
