Steps to create persistent USB with SnakeOil

  1. Download pre-installed Ubuntu 22.04 (64bit PC AMD64) server http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/...d/current/
  2. Use Balena Etcher to burn image on USB stick (Rufus does not work)
  3. Connect terminal, keyboard to PC, if required. On laptops, will need a USB network adapter; not all will work with Ubuntu and startup process will stall if not working.
  4. Boot PC, enter F10 (or equivalent) to bring up boot options.  On mine, selected 3rd option without UEFI
  5. Login ubuntu password ubuntu.  You will be prompted to change password
  6. Run 1.3.0 script to install SnakeOil (or use Putty) bash -c "$(wget -qLO - https://artifacts.snakeoil-os.net/artifacts/snakeoil-installer.sh)"
  7. Reboot PC and access SnakeOil via browser
  8. You can now change SnakeOil, activate etc. and it will be saved on USB.

This process is ideal for people with Windows PCs to try SnakeOil.
