Hi Guys
My first post on the forum and I have practically zero skills with anything tech or computer related so please be gentle with me!
I have a custom CA server built for me in 2016 with the spec's as pictured and SnakeOil OS installed. The SnakeOil OS was upgraded two years ago but I don't know which version.
In the last 12 months the server has become problematic with it only playing one song instead of an full album or playlist. I'm also experiencing difficulties uploading new music, but at this stage I'm more concerned about listening to the music on the server.
Could it be the server is past its use by date, reloading the OS, or possibly a settings issue?
Any suggestions or advice appreciated but please understand I'm not fluent in computer speak!
Cheers
Pete

Welcome to the forum.
What version of SnakeOil (SO) are you using, and Linux version? The front page of SO should provide this information. Also, what music player are you using?
Given that it is playing 1 song rather than an album, it is likely to be a software error rather than your hardware server playing up. However, please provide your hardware specs.
It is likely you will need to do a fresh install. Are you able to do this?

Hi Snoopy8
Please refer to red font...

Also, what music player are you using? Sqeezer

It is likely you will need to do a fresh install. Are you able to do this? I don't know, I guess it depends on what's involved.
For some reason the attached page is no longer accessible.

Are you able to access info on SnakeOil based on this Wiki?

I am sorry, but if you cannot provide info about your computer and SO, it will be very difficult to help. Suggest you find someone who knows more and help you to access and setup SO ...

I don't know anybody local who uses SO, and I guess this is probably why.
I wish it was like my car where I could take it somewhere and get it fixed.

I just wonder, is it possible to get some help from the guy who set up SnakeOil OS in your CA server in some years ago?

I wish it was like my car where I could take it somewhere and get it fixed. You can take it to a IT shop and pay someone to fix it. Show them this post, get them to read the Wiki and they probably can install a new version for you. However, you will be paying for them to learn...
While I hope you can continue to be a SnakeOil user, I wonder whether you will be better off buying a commercial streamer which requires a lot less computer skills?

Then decide whether to get a commercial streamer or hire a computer technician to fix your SnakeOil computer.

OK Guys,
I'm going to but in here, as I think everyone is working too hard on this issue. ... what he's asking you to do is to go to the front page of Snake Oil Server wihch can be found at the IP address of the machine ... so in my house I open a browser and type in " 192.168.1.105" (MAKE SURE YOUR NOT ADDING A PORT NUMBER AS WELL or else you'll end up in your regular LMS menu) press enter. from that I get the very nice snake oil server management screen. the current one looks like the below picture, notice the version number on the right had side of the screen. Your running an old version, so it will look different, but the layout should be similar.
I'm gonna guess your going to want to upgrade your operating system. Think about installing ubuntu server 22.04 and following the Snake Oil install wiki , it is very very easy ... then attach your music drive to it.
If your music drive lives on the same drive as the OS, things are a little more challenging unless you partitioned the drive, If not i would recommend pulling the drive and then getting a drive caddy and getting all your music copied over to another machine, Install the OS and then put your music on a dedicated hard drive. That way if you need to redo your machine again, you won't be messing with your music drive.
this shouldn't be too difficult to get fixed, but your going to have to get your hands a little dirty here and look under the hood.
Tim
