Working on new Snakeoil release - 1.3.x (Codename Measurements)

Indeed. But only on 64 bit systems now (The original idea of 32 bit Raspberry Pi OS is dropped). Dropping 32 bit support is mainly because the kernel on 32 bit OS is 64 bits now (This breaks a lot of software compilations). Sure I can re-configure the Pi OS 32 bit to use the 32 bit to make everything work again. But I just wonder why I need to do that. Might as well go 64 bits all the way.

As to why. Technically it's possible to run Ubuntu aarch64 on other arm based SBCs, beagle-bone, Asus Tinkerboard (?), and so on. If there's a Ubuntu variant for that SBC, Snakeoil could work. That may be a good thing?

Anyway, Alpha 2 should be prepped up and running. I have tested this on x86_64 and arm Ubuntu. But yet to test this on Raspberry OS. When available, please test it all and let me know how it goes.

Once the release is up, I will need to update the forum software again (always a pain in the arse)... Then gotta get back to day job. A lot of catching up to do. I know it's really bad form to criticise a person who has left so many months ago, but I just can't help it...

OK. 32-bit SO has gone, but Ubuntu LTS 64-bit will run on RPI 3 and later (including the Zero 2W), so that's everything from 2016(?) onwards. I don't know, but is there anyone here running an RPi 2 or earlier? Dropping 32-bit support is not something to work up a sweat about (IMHO).

I'm moving all my RPis (audio and non-audio) to Ubuntu LTS, where possible, so that's the way I'm going.

But I guess we RPi users are going to have to compare the Ubuntu LTS and Raspberry Pi OS versions to see if there's any sonic advantage one way or another  Angel

Going to try to get Alpha 2 installed this weekend (I have another distraction arriving today, according to Royal Mail). Can you guess what it is?  wacky

Yeah... That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Tongue

Ubuntu build is faster than Raspberry Pi build. I guess the kernel and the build tools are optimised better?

Yet to test this myself, but I think based on just the build environment I think Ubuntu should sound better. Especially when I can kick that kernel builder thingy into production. How many years have I promised this already?

I'm gonna take a break today from all things computer and find something to binge watch on TV. Be back on Snakeoil starting tomorrow.
