Follow the order below if you starting into home automation:
Using IFTTT and Voice Control to control lights isn’t as effective as initially anticipated - Google Home kept mis-interpreting what I said and go off some wild tangents. An easier way is to use the XiaoMi Gateway (Zigbee) and wireless switches.
This tutorial will show you how to register your Gateway into your Home Assistant, and then show you some simple automation examples with the XiaoMi Zigbee devices, like:
- Use a XiaoMi switch to turn on/off a Yeelight
- Use a XiaoMi switch and Gateway as a door bell
- Use a XiaoMi switch to turn on/off a XiaoMi smart plug
This tutorial is based on the standard documentation for XiaoMi Gateway.
Following the XiaoMi Vacuum, colour me impressed by the build and quality of everything XiaoMi. Got a bit carried away by the moment and so went on a spree and purchased many more XiaoMi smart devices - including the famous XiaoMi YeeLights.
This is a tutorial on how I integrate YeeLight in my ultrahouse - using Google Home as my voice control, and Home Assistant as the ‘brains’. It is assumed you already have a functional Home Assistant running installation in your home network. If you do not, refer to my earlier article on how to setup Home Assistant, IFTTT and WebHooks.

Use Google Home and/or Google Home mini to control your Xiaomi Vacuum with your voice!
Here are the things you need:
- Software
- Hardware
- Xiaomi Robot Vacuum
- Google Home Assistant (Original or mini)
- Android Phone
- Computer running Windows

The TV show Simpsons is ahead of it’s time in so many ways - fans of the Simpsons will remember the Ultrahouse 3000. Now we have the technology to do exactly that, with a few simple gadgets you can turn your house into a ’smart house’. This is the beginning of my journey.
The following 4 ingredients is all you need to turn your house into Ultrahouse 3000:
- Google Home Assistant
- Xiaomi Robot Vacuum
- Home Assistant software
- IFTTT web account
In this short video, the voice command ‘Clean House’ is picked up by Google Home, and the XiaoMi robot will start doing it’s thing. Not too sure why there is a lag of 10 seconds, putting that down to my slow Internet at home.
